I read an article somewhere that for someone who is under the same star sign as me, he or she can get quite superstitious. I did a self-check and I realized that it is quite true; for me at least.
There are heaps of superstitions.
Here are the few common ones:
1. Friday the thirteenth is an unlucky day
2. If you walk under a ladder, you will have bad luck
Diva’s 2 cents worth: So, please becareful when one walks pass the construction area or a place which has repair works going on.
3. If a black cat crosses your path you will have bad luck
4. Garlic protects from evil spirits and vampires
Diva’s 2 cents worth: Sounds like it happens frequently in movies since olden days; the yesterdays………But why so? Is it because of the pungent smell?
5. To give someone a purse or wallet without money in it will bring that person bad luck
Diva’s 2 cents worth: Next time remember to either ask for RM1 or insert RM1 into the wallet or purse.
6. To have a wish come true using a wishbone, two people make a wish, then take hold of each end of the bone and pull it until it separates. The person with the longer end gets his or her wish.
Diva’s 2 cents worth: I used to play this game with my family members. Did my wishes come true? I can't recall.
7. To open an umbrella in the house is to bring bad luck
Diva’s 2 cents worth: It is so normal for one to open the umbrella indoor to dry it at times. According to the Chinese is that this action will release all demon captured in the umbrella.
8. To break a mirror will bring you seven years bad luck
Diva’s 2 cents worth: I wonder why…..
Here are some that I have never come across before. Have you?
1. The wedding veil protects the bride from the evil eye
Diva’s 2 cents worth: Really? Wow, I know it now….
2. You must get out of bed on the same side you got in on or you will have bad luck
Diva’s 2 cents worth: No wonder we always say: we woke up on the wrong side of the bed when not-so-decent-incidents happened.
3. Clothes worn inside out will bring good luck.
4. An itchy palm means money will come your way
5. It is bad luck to sing at the table
6. It is bad luck to sleep on a table
7. If the bottom of your feet itch, you will make a trip
8. To find a penny heads up, brings good luck
9. Animals can talk at midnight on Christmas Eve
Diva’s 2 cents worth: I was with Princess Gabby on Christmas eve, she didn’t talk to me…..
10. Washing a car will bring rain
Diva’s 2 cents worth: Hmm……well if we wash our car with a gloomy sky, yes, it will rain alright.
I personally believe in one superstition which is in the Chinese culture: Don’t buy shoes for someone. It means you want this person to walk out of your life.
I’ve experienced it. I did walk out of someone’s life (not by choice).
Call me superstitious? Yes, I am.
Ciao.
