Adding One More Year of Wisdom

I peeped at my mobile phone. 6:51am. “Shit! I am late for work.” That was the first thing that came to my blur mind. I looked outside of my room, and it was dark. No lights were on, no movement, no motion. Everyone’s doors were closed and quiet it was. How come Mum didn’t knock on my door? I thought to myself….

I managed to calm myself down a little and not be an ant on the heated wok; jumping. Aiyoo…it’s Sunday, no wonder! Silly me! (felt like banging my head against the wall)

And so, after 5 minutes of drama and fret, I crawled back to bed. Pulled the sheets over and finally woke up at 9.15am. Bathed and got ready for a Chinese New Year mass. Mass was longer than usual as it was celebrated in Mandarin. There was a ceremony of the priest and the whole congregation showed respect to our ancestors. It is not a very-right ritual for Catholics to use joss sticks and such, but we did. It was a sign to pay respect and remembering our Chinese origins and ancestors. I would have to say nowadays the church services are getting more modern.

At the end of the mass, ang pows and blessed mandarin oranges were distributed.

1st Feb is a big day. Yeah, to those who work in KL, will enjoy the replacement of FT day tomorrow. For me, not so lucky as I don’t enjoy such privilege anymore, but it is the day that marked my first cry to the world!

I had a birthday lunch with my family. Yummy-delicious, the food was good. (I was eating throughout this whole CNY holiday by the way) It was the 7th day of the lunar calendar, so it was also known as “Yan Yat” – everyone’s birthday.

It was a late lunch we had, so by the time we were done, it was already 3pm.

Jetfighter came to my house. He passed me a white box with a red organza ribbon. It was pretty! It was my birthday pressie! We chit-chatted for awhile as his flight back to Sydney was at night. He needed to pack his bags, whilst I had to start preparing my Japanese-Garlic-Seafood Fried Rice for my birthday party dinner. And so, we said our goodbyes under the umbrella (it was drizzling). God knows when we will be seeing each other again.

Ah well, am gonna miss my buddy!

Anyway, back to my happenings of the day.

I went over to LawyerLawyer’s house at 7pm. She "sponsored" her house as my birthday celebration venue. (Thank you very much!) The rest of the gang was already there. All of them have prepared dinner and was just waiting for my Jap Fried Rice to arrive.

On the dining table, there were: Yee Sang, sambal chicken, steamed eggs with tofu and mushroom, herbal soup, stir fried broccoli, marinated vegetable with chicken and duck meat and my fried rice.

And so the food fiesta night began. All of us were eating, laughing and chatting over dinner. We were stuffed – with the amount of the food there. Later, LawyerLawyer’s sister and her hubby joined us.

Just as the food started to set in our stomach, MMB offered to make us dessert. Ooooh….it was Vanilla ice cream with corn flakes and Hershey’s Chocolcate Syrup. OMG, more input to the tummy! But it was an irresistible dessert. She also made this Fruity Almond Pudding. So, we all had some.

After dinner, all of us were just too heavy and lazy to move. We started to discuss about 5th Fookies’ wedding. We were looking at the designs and planned for our bridesmaids’ outfit. Yes, all 5 of us, the Fookies, will be her bridesmaids. It is gonna be very exciting.

Most of us needed to work tomorrow. So, we ended the fun and enjoyable night around 10pm. Washed up and packed and off we went on our separate ways. My hands were carrying a 2 big paper bags and my Tupperware. When I reached home, I untied the ribbons and opened all the wrappers. The pressies that The Fookies gave me were great! They know me well, alright!

Thanks, girlies!

Overall, it was an awesome night; a simple yet meaningful gathering for me…..

After 28 years from the above....
