** I have to confess that I drafted this on my lil’ notebook when I was in church, before the mass started**
February 14th, it is the world-widely known day of love – Valentine’s Day. The first thought that will strike people’s mind is always as the day to celebrate this special day with their significant one; and to express the love they have for each other.
Nowadays, Valentine’s Day is just getting more and more commercialized.
Radio stations play non-stop of lovey-dovey songs and having V’Day call-in promotions.
Florists’ businesses flourished; the figures at the cash registers punched in were mostly 3 digits per transaction; the notes in the cash drawer pile up as high as a mountain. The stocks of soft, red buds and fillers and teddy bears filled the cool fridges and storeroom.
Restaurants would have pre-planned special menus for two to enjoy with the candle burning in the middle of the table while they fill their tummies with the taste of love. Sweet love.
Not forgetting this can reduce the amount in the bank account and the stack of notes in the wallet went thinner. But, love is not being measure by $$$$ ???
Even in church, there were two large vases with neatly trimmed palm leaves, bent into a heart shape as the main highlight of the red and pink petals on the stems arrangement.
Gift shops will have all soft toys and greeting cards placed by the window to "intrigue" passersby to stop and probably make a purchase.
It is also a day for girls (in most cases) to be the one smiling from ear to ear and floating in cloud nine. Guys, on the other hand, would be the one cracking their heads to get ideas and polishing their decision making skills on what will the perfect gift without upsetting their precious. Of course, guys will/ might receive their fair share of gift of joy. But, I think guy’s gift would be harder to purchase; as what would really make them happy are stuff like: the latest PS games, XBOX, Ipod, PSP, any latest technology gadgets or even a set of 17”/ 18” rims?
Anyhow, no matter whatever gift was given, what it matters most was the effort and initiatives that one put in. It can be just a simple card but it was decorated and stuck full with the happy moments captured in photos or sketches.
Valentine’s Day is the day that we emphasize more on sharing and expressing our love to those who are dear to us, such as our family, friends, colleagues, and even pets, besides our significant partner.
It is the day of spreading love, just like an air-borne virus.
Love is everywhere!
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone. I hope you felt the extraordinary love today.
P/S: Love should be spread and shared thoughout 365 days and not just 1/365.
