As the 2nd chapter to A joyful Saturday, it was an impromptu plan to catch up with one of my bestie, 6th Fookie. I swung by her house and picked her up. Off we went to the mall for dinner and Marley and Me.
Dinner was good and we caught up on the happenings in our lives lately. It had been weeks since our last girlie session. We managed to get good seats for the movie.
I have to say Marley and Me was quite a good movie. I don’t deny that it is one of those typical family drama but with Marley around, it gave a lil’ twist to laughter and sobbing slots. A heartwarming movie. At the end of the movie, people were sobbing and clearing their nose....
Marley, he got his name when Bob Marley was on the radio. He didn’t like Bob, but he responded to “Marley” when John called him. Cool eh?
Bits and pieces of Marley’s character/ personality and a bit of the storyline remind me of Gabby…..
Jenny wanted a dog to hone her parenting skills; that’s why the both of them got Marley from a backyard breeder. In the later part in the movie, Jen poured out to Marley when she lost her first unborn. He was her confidant. I was out for a puppy search because I was feeling empty and needed company. I wanted to spread my love to someone who is worth it. And I needed someone to share my ups and downs with as I am so used to it. Gabby is my confidant like I always make this statement. She listens to what I say and she would give me “that” look, just as if she understands what I am saying or talking about. Somehow, she knows.
Marley loved chewing on anything; everything and he didn’t listen to any instructions. In fact, he got expelled from “the dogs’ academy”. Well, in my case, she had chewed off the tip of our slippers. Gabby is also quite rebellious at times; however, the only trick that can fool her is FOOD. She is one lil’ greedy fellow. Thank goodness Gabby was quite good during her training lessons and didn’t humiliate me. She passed the exam with flying colors.
Both Marley and Gabby are extremely playful. They share the same active trait.
Marley was such a good guardian doggy when the kids were around. He waited for them to return from school when the bus was even miles away. Gabby waits for everyone to be back home (at different hours of the day). She will sit calmly at the door with her tail wagging – left, right, left right…..
Many of them say: Dogs are men’s best friend. John went for walks with Marley whenever he needed to take a breather from home or to sweat it out. My dad takes Gabby out for evening walks almost everyday, as a form of exercise for the both of them – dad and Gabby.
John and family loved Marley. In the movie, it was a sad ending. Marley died of old age. He had left the family and moved on. I have to admit I teared and tried to cover up…..
My family and I love Gabby as she is part of the family. She is the 5th family member in the house for me. She has been with us for almost 6 months now and all of us just love her! There will be many, many, many more 6 months to come….The irony of her is she has brought all of us even closer; just like how Marley brought out the best in the Grogan’s family.
Cheers!
