I opened the fridge yesterday and saw 2 hot cross buns lying on the tray……yum yum…
Easter is one of the important celebrations in the Christian calendar. It is the day that Jesus was resurrected from the dead; three days after his crucifixion.
Chocolate bunnies, colorful painted eggs and hot cross buns…all these symbolize EASTER!!! I always wondered why it is so commercialized and we see various sorts of pretty packaging of Easter Chocolate Bunnies in shopping malls. Easter eggs are all painted and kids going ga-ga over them…..pestering their parents to buy. And so, I’ve decided to Google the link between Bunnies and Eggs with Easter.
So, what is the connection?
The Easter Bunny is a rabbit-spirit. Rabbits have frequent multiple births so they became a symbol of fertility. The Romans believed that "All life comes from an egg." Christians consider eggs to be "the seed of life" and so they are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Ahh…..I kind of have a clearer picture of the origins now…but I think I'm going to hit the fridge for the hot cross buns now! Yummy.....the cinnamon tasting buns...*Greedy greedy*
