I was invited for a “Dumpling Festival” food frenzy a.k.a celebration.
Yup, today is the actual of Dumpling Festival. It is the day dedicated to Qu Yuan, who threw himself into the sea as an act to protest injustice and corruption. Fishermen wanted to save this idealist from being eaten up by the fishes in the sea; hence they beat drums and gongs and threw rice into the water. In the Chinese’s believe, every 5th day of the 5th month in the lunar calendar, we will celebrate as remembrance of Qu Yuan. According to some elderly people, apparently dragon boat races indicate the search of Qu Yuan’s body. In some culture, the Chinese offers dumplings (sticky rice wrapped up using bamboo leaves); thrown into the sea as offerings.
I left work quite early and headed to the HOUSE. The HOUSE that forever welcomes people for meals. Sexytary gave me a warm welcome and made me felt at home. My makan kakis were already there. We ate so much till we were too heavy to move. On the dining table, there were fried chicken wings, noodles, the Hokkien dish – “Yi Hu Char”, steamed rice, chicken soup, braised duck and steamed promfret fish. Of course, there were the gigantic steamed dumplings! How can we miss that out, right?!
OMG! I am so full.
We chatted after dinner and enjoyed cups of ocha. Nice!
And that was my unexpected event for the day!
Cheerio!
