It was a late Sunday evening that I drove my parents out hunting for new basins for the house. Yeah, we are changing some stuff at home….
It was closed to 8pm and I was hungry despite having a late lunch. We drove around Damansara Uptown…we saw this restaurant quite packed with people. So as usual, thinking that the food is good there, so we parked the car and headed to Sentul Ah Yap’s Charcoal Hokkien Mee.
There were quite a bit of different kinds of noodles and dishes in the menu. I wanted to try their kononnya famous hokkien noodles, but I changed my mind when I saw ‘Bei Ge’ listed on the menu.
I would never imagine myself eating ‘Bei Ge’ (flat noodles made of flour; like Pan Mee, but the texture of it is chewy and thicker) again. I used to eat it at ‘my other home’, but I no longer have the privilege to.
Without any hesitation, I ordered it.
We waited for about 30 minutes before the food was served.
When it finally came, my ‘Bei Ge’ looked and tasted different from the one I love. It brought back memories where I used to get to eat it on Sundays (sometimes) afternoon for lunch. The style of cooking was dry and with minced meat.
The one served that night was with some brown gravy with sliced fish cakes and vegetable….but the taste is not too bad. Mama has never tasted it before, so I gave her some. She likes it too!
Do try out this restaurant only if you are willing to wait for the food and have lots of time on hand.
They have 3 branches besides the main restaurant located in Sentul.
1st branch: No 10, Jalan PJU 5/16, Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara.
2nd branch: No 16-1, Jalan PJU 1/3A, Sunwaymas Commercial Centre, PJ
3rd branch: 111G, Jalan SS21/37, Damansara Utama. PJ.
