“Hold the fort, Grace!”
“Yes, I will try my very best!”
That was what my mentor said before she left for appointments; and that was my reply to her.
It was the second time in my working years that I encountered this line. The first time was a few years back and my manager went for a business trip. When she came back, she actually sent me an email, thanking me for ‘holding the fort’ while she was gone. I didn’t expect that.
Right, you see what happened was yesterday we were in a midst of ‘negotiation’. We requested and amended a few marketing promotions and we were questioned a thousand times before HQ aligned with it. My mail box practically had 50 emails just in one day (yesterday). Finally at the end of the day, all was settled. *phew*
Other than this, unnecessary pressure was being put on us. I felt it wasn’t fair to say so and hence I replied with our thoughts; my thoughts. I had to stand firm and convey the message over to make some sense into their heads.
By the end of the day, I felt exhausted – mentally.
I really respect those leaders who can hold the fort – regardless whether it’s for the country, a giant MNC, business or even at home!
